Waiting its Turn
Geoff Johnson, of Albuquerque, NM, had the following to say about this restoration-ready Rampside in July, 2018:
"I don't know a lot of the back story on it. My dad drove it regularly, and so did my mom, in the early 1980's, when I was a young kid. I would guess he got it in the early '80s or the late '70s. My sister says it died in '84; I think '85 or '86. It has sat exactly where it is now, since. I believe it threw a rod rather spectacularly. My dad had been drivng back and forth between Albuquerque and Portales.
The truck has had one repaint in the original color, and was a decent job back then. It has Santa Fe Motor Co. emblems on it but I would guess they were added by a used car dealer, because this Rampside seems to have too much rust for a New Mexico car, unless it was up the hill in Los Alamos. That's where my '61 Rampy lived and it was a rust bucket before lots of rust replacement. Hopefully this truck has its original engine, still. The spare to go in it, if needed, is a car engine. If the engine in it is its original, I will rebuild it."
