A Texas original
Ron Scott, Jr. of San Antonio, TX, is the owner of this '64 Rampside. He received it from his father, Ron Scott, Sr. The elder Scott purchased the truck from Barney Eaton (Georgetown, TX) in July, 2000, at the CORSA convention in Daytona Beach. This truck has a rather unique, made-in-Texas, aftermarket front bumper, as can be seen in the photo below:
Ron Sr. had the following to say about this truck:
"The Rampside has not been run since 1982, so it needs lots of TLC, which I plan to give it as soon as I finish rebuilding the engine in my '63 Greenbrier."
This truck is powered by a110 HP engine with PowerGlide transmission. In addition to the "deluxe" trim, the truck also has a radio. The accent (stripe) color is gold, not white, perhaps painted by the dealer at the first owner's request, to better match the Fawn exterior color.
Barney provided some details on the unique front bumper in September, 2011:
"The unusual front bumper guard was there when I purchased the truck in Austin, TX in 1974. The unit was made in Waco, TX by a company that is still in business. Upon contacting them, they had no record of the pattern. The son now runs the company and I was unable to talk to the father.
The plate in the center that holds the license plate reads 'SMASH HIT'. I don't know if it is trademarked, but the son said they were often contacted to get new ones and they have changed the design and the old ones must be re-chromed because they have none available."
That's the spirit!
