A tale of two VINs?
David Castiaux of Oklahoma City, OK recently bought this Rampside and has parted it out. In David's words:
"I recently bought this truck in Arkansas for parts. It is rusted away; I found that it did not have many good parts after dragging it home. It had sat in the weeds since 1977.
The VIN tag on the driver's door pillar post was missing so I got the serial number from the frame (S106988). Something struck me as strange is that there a '9' stamped directly under the last '8' on the frame rail, almost like it had two VINs! The '9' didn't look like an accident or misfire; it is perfectly lined up under the last '8' with good spacing in between."
Regarding the extra "9", Dave Newell offered:
"The digits were likely on a rotating stamp and since 9 was the last digit of the next VIN, it must have somehow made contact with the frame. Seems odd though that it lined up that precisely."
