Another item we corrected was having an incorrect date stamp on the differential. The original differential case was not with the car when I bought it.

To make things a little more complicated, the date code's location is different for 1965-6 Canadian-built Corvairs: It's on the forward right side instead of the lower left.

Luckily, we were able to find a Canadian case with the right type stamp (AB, or 3.55:1, manual transmission, non-Positraction) but the date code was wrong.

Duanne found the correct size stamp set and was able to match the date code to the one on the original transmission case (11 01, or November 1, 1965). Originally, the differential code might have differed by a few days but there's no way to know now.

We duplicated the white paint that the Saginaw plant would have originally applied. They did this to help workers on the final assembly line see the date code. Otherwise, the markings were quite hard to see due to lack of contrast.
