Project vehicle finds a new home
Sterling Knight of Dayton, OH, purchased this van in December, 2020 from Gregory Brush, also of the Dayton area. Mr. Brush had previously bought it from Dennis Cain of Germantown, OH. Mr. Brush did a lot of work to the van, because it had spent about 20 years in a barn, including replacing the engine, rebuilding the automatic transmission, repairing the gas tank, rebuilding the brakes, mounting new tires, and recovering the seats. In November 2021, Sterling shared:
"My parents had one of these when I was about six years old. I don't remember the year of it but it was dark green with the white stripe. All the repairs were made as A father-and-son project that I believe they lost interest in.
After getting the van home, I did a front suspension inspection because it had a very stiff ride and the front end seemed too high. I found that the coil springs were not installed properly in the upper spring pockets. While disassembling it to install the springs properly, I found many nuts to be loose or not secured with cotter pins. The large nut on the Pitman arm shaft was backed off one full thread. I am amazed nothing came apart on the test drive or when I drove it home!
I've been going over everything they worked on carefully to make sure it is safe. Beyond getting the front end sorted out, I have only done small cosmetic upgrades, like replacing the dome light with a new one and cleaning and repainting the speedometer assembly and bezel. I also pulled out the speedometer cable to lubricate it while everything was apart.
I have other projects I was working on, before I found the van, that I need to complete before I can go any further with my Greenbrier. When I get the chance I will forward more pics and a short story about my new-to-me van."
