Computing the number of cars of each model sent to Belgium as CKD involved several steps. Below is an attempt to explain the steps. When a final number for a model and body style combination is reached, it is given in green:
- Since CKDs were sent only to Belgium and Switzerland in model year 1966, we can derive that 288 CKDs went to Belgium, given that we know 144 Swiss CKDs were produced (432 - 144 = 288)
- 144 of the Belgian CKDs were 500, Monza, or Corsa coupes and 144 were 500 or Monza sedans (from option A16, once the 144 Swiss CKDs were subtracted); therefore, 0 were Monza convertibles and 0 were Corsa convertibles (confirmed by Dave's article and summary stats table)
- 0 of the sedans were Corsas and 0 of the 500s were convertibles, since those models never existed
- 48 of the Belgian CKDs were 500s, 192 were Monzas, and 48 were Corsas (from option X28 and also from option U18, once the 144 Swiss CKDs were subtracted)
- All 48 of the Corsas must be coupes, since no CKD convertibles were produced and there is no such thing as a Corsa sedan
- 96 of the Monzas must be coupes (from option D31, since there were no Swiss CKD coupes)
- 0 of the coupes were 500s, since 48 of them have to be Corsas and 96 have to be Monzas (48 + 96 = 144)
- 48 of the sedans must be 500s (from option W84, since none of the Swiss CKDs were 500 sedans; can also be derived from option U18)
- 96 of the sedans must be Monzas, since the other 48 were 500s (144 - 48 = 96)
Quite a thought puzzle!
