1962 Loadside Registry
369 Loadsides were built in model year 1962, the final year of production. The '62 Loadside is the least-produced of all Corvair models. The trucks were built in both Flint, MI and St. Louis, MO. Chevy production information furnished by Dave Newell makes it possible to tell which month a given Loadside was built.
As of December 09, 2020, there are 20 1962 Loadsides in this registry: 3 built in Flint and 17 built in St. Louis. This represents just over 5% of the total production.
Decoding a Loadside VIN
Decoding a Loadside VIN is very straightforward. For example, in this sample VIN:
2R124S104789
- 2 is the last digit of the model year (1962)
- R124 is the model (R124 = Rampside and Loadside; R125 = Corvan; R126 = Greenbrier)
- S is the production plant (St. Louis, MO; F = Flint, MI)
- 104789 is the vehicle serial number (starts at 100001)
It is possible for vehicles to differ by only the letter ("S" or "F"), since numbering started at 100000 at both plants. However, with four models being produced, the number of such near-duplicates is likely to be fairly low.
